our story

Rev Joe Haward was called by the South West Baptist Association to plant a church from scratch in Newton Abbot, Devon. Joe, Sarah and their daughter Grace moved to Newton Abbot in the summer of 2010 from Mersea Island in Essex. Joe, an eighth generation oyster fisherman, had recently completed his degree at Spurgeon’s College and been ordained, whilst Sarah, a first generation beauty therapist (!), was at this time six months pregnant with their second daughter Lizzie, so, with the move, there were many new, exciting and daunting challenges ahead. Over time, with a lot of prayer, relationships began to form with different people in various places like pubs, schools and community groups.

What began as a calling to church plant has evolved into a work providing pastoral and spiritual care to the community, helping to create, where possible, small relational communites that learn together what it looks like to love. Joe provides this pastoral and spiritual care to people in a variety of ways; chaplain to businesses, schools, charities, and in one-to-one relationships.

We would love for you to join us, so please get in touch, it would be great to meet you.

'In a world where success is the measure and justification of all things, the figure of him who was sentenced and crucified remains a stranger.'
